McNugget Family
Six flimsy boxes, ten McNuggets each, and hot fries? My big cousins and I, still teary-eyed, gaped, our mouths in perfect Os. We couldn’t remember the last time we had McDonald’s, much less all together. It felt unusual without Grandpa, now three days gone, sitting at the head of the dining table. But he still grinned from his immutable portrait on the corkboard, chortling while we drowned our greedy mouths in oil and tangy barbecue sauce. Warmth hugged our hearts. The wok Grandpa brandished in the photo would forever stay shiny, orange and radiant, just like his devotion to us.
