Time to deal with my Mormon underwear problem. I took them off years ago when I stopped believing but I didn’t throw them away. We are taught that we have to cut out the symbols and burn them first. I pull the bag out from under my bed, scissors and lighter laid out in preparation for the final rites. I take out the first piece, a top. I hesitate, conflicted. Mormonism doesn’t wash off so easily. I cut out the chalice and square, but I don’t burn them. Then I throw out the rest of the bag, symbols and all.
