Darth Glam

Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope was the first movie I saw in a theater. My brother and I were big fans. When Darth Vader did an appearance at our local Toys“R”Us, our Mom took us to meet him. He didn’t talk. Immediately, I experienced a profound feeling of disappointment. Everyone was kind of lying a little, weren’t they? None of it seemed right. My brother asked Darth . . . Mr. Vader? . . . if he would take his gloves off. Refused! My brother demanded, “Why?” The Dark Lord of the Sith replied, “I can’t, because my nail polish would show.”

With a BFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, Carla Rudy enjoyed a side quest through the performing arts and now works in a museum.
