Worst Day

There’s an earlier flight! Running full speed through the airport, we plop our exhausted butts down for the final leg of our trans-Atlantic trip. After being away for more than two weeks, we are filled with giddy anticipation for our early arrival to surprise our kindergartener and first grader just as they are getting off the bus. The cab pulls up to our eerily quiet home. Confused, we tiptoe into the house. The note reads, “Bridget, we’re sorry for your loss. There’s food in the fridge.” What the hell? Frantic calls go unanswered. Then, the phone shrieks. “Bridget, Dad died.”
