“Every home needs a cornerstone ….” So began our music teacher’s original composition, which closed out the first half of our choir’s holiday show. As we sang, I started to see white spots, which turned into a white shroud. I futilely muttered for help during the penultimate part of the song: "a promise keeps … in there … to share …." After the final line, "to build a better earth…," I heard my body knock over music stands but didn’t feel my head hit them. Dad carried me off the stage to thunderous applause. I missed the second half, which were songs I never rehearsed anyway.
