The babies sit aligned in rows. I weave amongst the beds using knees with worn-out brake pads to pour water on the plants, my shoulders aching, frozen. It takes an hour. When done, I sit amongst them in silence ignoring the busy university campus where I live. I’m the only one in the garden. The energy buzzes in my belly and up my spine. I stand. Placing my hands above the veggies and herbs, I focus on what they are to become and send them my blessing. Students descend. It’s morning tea-time. I collect the water can and exit.
